Happy 30th to my brother-in-law

We were going to go home this weekend to celebrate my brother-in-law's 30th birthday but for some reasons it was only clarified on Saturday morning that he wasn't going home this weekend!! I was a bit annoyed because of whoever was disorganised. Arghhhh......

We tend to get a jokey card for my brother-in-law so I rarely make cards for him. However, when hubby and I went into Paperchase the other day, we saw this card and it made him chuckle. Although it's one of my favourite shop, I still refuse to pay £3.xx for a card so I decided to recreate this card.

I downloaded the funky fonts off dafont for the wordings on the card. I had the design photocopied on the textured card. It could be a bit disastrous with a photocopier as the toner powder never stays on very well on textured card. However, on this occasion it has worked well because I could create the distressed event by slightly rubbing the powder off. I was going to fix the powder with some hair spray but I had run out so I heated it with a heat gun instead, which I didn't know it would work! "29" has been heat embossed with silver powder though it's not showing very well in the photo.

It won't be "29 yesterday" when we give him the card but hopefully he will still like it and it will make him chuckle.

2009 Christmas Cards

I actually wasn't planning on making any Christmas cards. It had been so busy and I didn't want to make any for the sake of it. However, because of the heavy snow, I had to stay home which gave me some extra time to create some cards. Well, I said some, I only made two and half. Why half? I only quickly put a very very simple one together for my hubby which even he thought I only put it together in a haste. Oops!

The robins on the card above were made from felt. The brown circles came from a ready-to-assemble card pack for making teddy bear cards. The small circles were the heads and the big ones were the bodies but I used them to create big robin and little robin. I drew the branches and leaves on with gel pen and stamped "Merry Christmas" on free-hand.

The cute robin card went to my in-laws.

The next one went to my hubby's aunt. I bought some Laura Ashley clear stamps ages ago but never used them so I was determined to utilize them to make at least one card. I stamped the individual patterns on to resemble a bauble. The green ribbon was recycled from some packaging I collected some years ago. (Yep, I do collect "rubbish").

With a bit of embossing powder, a bit of heat and some bling. Wa~la~

My friend's new arrival

The couple who got married last year just had a new arrival to their family! It's a girl!!

I didn't see her for a long time after the wedding because we moved again and I changed job. When I saw a picture of her at a party on Facebook, I was puzzled as she was normally very trimmed but looked really round in the photo. It would be rude to ask if she was pregnant when she might have just put on a few pounds because of a happy marriage!

It turned out she was pregnant and when I met her she only had 4 weeks to go. On 21st May, I was texted - baby was born!

Here's a card I have made for their new arrival - Jasmine.

Piggy Calendar

It's never easy to organise all the photos on computer when you have got thousands of them! I finally managed to set up a network for the computers at home so that I can now easily file/organise the photos on my old laptop by using the "new" desktop.

While I was doing this, I came across many photos of items I made before which I almost forgot (or actually have forgotten!!) Here's a calendar I made for my ex-bf probably 8 years ago. The piggys could be taken off the calendar and used as decoration. I remember I made a portrait one with pandas for a friend as well.

Digital photos are good. They always look as good as new but I think it also surprises you how time goes so quickly when you think hard to realise when the photos were taken.

Orchid Buttonhole

I have been quite busy recently, moving home and helping my friend with her wedding. Not only I have been making her 5-tier wedding cake but also made some silk flower buttonholes for her. She thought about having fresh flower buttonholes initially but they are so expensive, and the design and flower choice of the cheapest option are normally very boring. When we went to hobbycraft to get ribbons for the wedding cake, we saw the purplely pink silk orchids which would be really suitable for her wedding colour scheme as well as her origin as she is Thai.

Therefore I offered to make the buttonholes for her. We collated some buttonhole photos on internet and she decided which design she wanted. Here we go, this is the final product! It's not bad, isn't it?

Not yet arrived: Mother's Day Card

This is the mother's day card I have made for my hubby's mother. I have to confess that I (we?) have left it a little bit late so it still hasn't arrived yet...... I hope it will arrive safely coz the mother's day card we sent a couple of years ago never arrived.

I bought the felt flower from Early Learning Centre after reading Sillybirds Stamping Diary. The felt flowers were an absolute bargain! 80p for a box of 8. Thanks Alex for sharing the info.

I will have to make another one for my mum and granny in May coz Mother's Day in Hong Kong is in May. I believe the May one is the American one. Why does HK celebrate Mother's Day in May even it used to be a British colony? Not a clue. I will have to put a lot of effort in to remember it coz there won't be any merchadise around to remind me!

I am Thanksgiving!?

You Are Thanksgiving

You are a bit of a homebody who enjoys being in the company of people you love.

It doesn't take a lot to make you happy. You're enjoying life as it is.

You have many blessings in your life, and you are grateful for each one.

You believe that life is about what you *do* have. You feel like you have enough of the good stuff.

What makes you celebrate: Family, friends, and the changing of the seasons.

At holiday get togethers, you do best as: The host of the party

On a holiday, you're the one most likely to: Spend so much energy preparing that it's a full time job

Made with Frustration

This card was made when I was getting frustrated making the burgundy Valentine's day card. Yep, it's pink but there is green on it as well!! I used my bargain See D's stamp and my newly purchased pattered paper and ribbon.

As my hubby's birthday is very close to Valentine's Day, I have decided to give the burgundy one to him for Valentine's Day and this one for his birthday, hehe. All sorted!
